Quaker Chemical Headquarters & Laboratory Facilities

Conshohocken, Pennsylvania

Since its beginnings in 1918, Quaker Chemical Corporation has evolved from a maker of specialty oil products for the textile industry to a global marketer of industrial process fluids and related products and services.  When Quaker ceased manufacturing at their Conshohocken facility, they elected to relocate their worldwide headquarters from a 1960s office building on the site to the former chemical plant buildings.

The original 1929 Chemical Plant building was completely gutted and renovated including sandblasting existing wood beams and exterior brick walls.  A new two story 40, 000 square foot building was built as an addition to the existing Plant building. Space Design developed new office Standards for Quaker which includes open areas, collaborative spaces, workstations, respite spaces, meeting rooms, private offices and a full service cafeteria with outdoor dining facility and a Wellness center.

Utilizing the architectural richness of the 75-year-old structure, Space Design Incorporated exposed the brick and timbers that stunningly evoke Quaker’s deep heritage in industrial America.  Although enclosed by powerful reminders of Quaker’s roots, the office is a complete 21st century high-tech workplace.

In May 2003 we completed a second project for Quaker which included a $6 Million “ground-up” renovation to Quaker’s existing 17 year old 24,000 SF Lab Building which is also located on the former Chemical Plant site in Conshohocken.
