The Philadelphia Stock Exchange, America's first Exchange, has the world's most fully automated trading floor. Space Design Incorporated provided full interior architectural design services when the Exchange relocated its entire operations to a major new facility spanning a full city block in downtown Philadelphia. The design reinforces the progressive image of the exchange and provides maximum flexibility. Working closely with Exchange management and the building's architect Space Design modified the atrium and lower level to accommodate the client's specialized needs such as raised floor. fifteen foot ceilings, restricted access for security. and its complex communications systems.
The facilities include trading floors, private offices, executive board room. a separate entrance with private elevator and communicating stairway, members' dining area, employees' cafeteria, and a 4,500 square foot main frame computer room. The trading floors accommodate over 700 traders and clerks at workstations which contain all cabling, built-in cabinetry; monitors, and freestanding quote equipment. Access to each station is provided through the raised floor and built-in raceways without disruption to other stations.
Careful management of budget and schedule, attention to the Exchange's requirements, and coordination of the many independent team members were important keys to the success of this five year project.
