AT&T Information Systems

King of Prussia, Pittsburgh, Allentown, Bala Cynwyd, Pennsylvania

With the divestiture of AT&T in 1983, the company was faced with the necessity of opening new offices in four different locations in less than six months. Space Design Incorporated was asked to provide space planning and interior architectural design services for all four locations: King of Prussia, Pittsburgh, Allentown, and Bala Cynwyd. The six month time period represented the operational date established by a court order. Within that period, we were asked to solve several problems simultaneously: reorganization, new marketing emphasis, budget constraints, and office efficiency.

By January 2, 1984, AT&T had moved into their offices in all four locations on time and under budget. Space Design Incorporated provided a variety of design solutions to the multi-faceted project. First, with the increased importance of marketing AT&T's services competitively, our firm designed a space that was aesthetically pleasing with an open plan that allowed maximum flexibility. Electronics were also a significant consideration since it was necessary to install thousands of telephone and computer terminals and up to 100 miles of cable per floor. To accommodate these cabling problems, a raised access flooring system was utilized to permit less expensive and more flexible wiring.

Our state-of-the-art computer capabilities allowed us to meet the move-in deadline with an understated space that provided an efficient work environment.
